Um, it’s Voltron okay… A Paragon Path for 4E D&D

When I was a kid I loved Voltron. You know, the defender of the universe. So when I was talking to one of my friends about our games I made a joke about the whole, “form Blazing Sword” bit. That it would fit in perfectly in D&D 4E. It’s a Daily that can only be used when bloodied. Which then led me to create a little homebrew Paragon Path for paladins that could fit into my Blighted World setting… The Five Lion Defender.

Five Lion Defender

“We’ve been in worse scrapes than this!”

Prerequisite: Paladin

The Five Lions are the mighty exarchs of the great god Arus. They are his bodyguards and elite warrior cadre. Each of the Lions is tied to one of five elements and is a great leader. Those who follow the Five Lions are courageous defenders of their allies and will stand against any enemy to protect the innocent and the worthy.

Five Lion Defender Path Features

Five Lion Defender Action (11th Level): When you spend an Action Point to take an extra action you gain Resist 10 Acid, Fire, Lightning, Cold, and Necrotic until the end of your next turn.

Glorious Defender (11th Level): You gain an Aura 2: All allies in this aura gain a +2 to their Healing Surge Value when they use their Second Wind.

Defender’s Critical (16th Level): When you score a critical hit, choose one ally. That ally may make a saving throw against one condition (or ongoing damage) affecting them.

Five Lion Defender Prayers

Gripping Jaws of the Mighty Lions
Attack 11 (Encounter)
The might of the Five Lions binds whatever foe you point out with your weapon, who feels the power of their bite.
Divine * Weapon * Standard Action
Ranged 10 * Target: One Creature
Attack: Strength vs. AC
Hit: [1W] + Strength Modifier damage. The target is restrained and takes ongoing damage 5 (Save ends both).
Aftereffect: The target is marked by you.
Special: This ranged attack does not provoke Opportunity Attacks.

Five Lion’s Gathering Glory
Utility 12 (Encounter)
Your enemies are taken aback by your Radiant Glory and fear your power.
Divine * Personal * Free Action
Effect: You can take an extra Standard Action on your turn. This action cannot be used to make attacks and you may not move from the position where you start the action. After taking this action make an immediate Intimidate Check with a +2 bonus versus all opponents within line of sight.

Blazing Weapon
Attack 20 (Daily)
When danger truly threatens and you are pushed to your limits, only the most powerful attack will do.
Divine * Weapon * Standard Action
Melee Weapon * Target: One Creature
Attack: Strength vs. AC
Hit: [4W] + Strength modifier radiant damage. This attack does extra damage equal to your Charisma modifier and if your target is marked by you this attack ignores all resistances.
Special: You may only use this attack when you are Bloodied.

The powers are based on the kinds of attacks Voltron would whip out in episodes — like shooting the lion heads to grab an opponent. I also wanted the Utility power to represent the “time out” that always seems to happen when the lions were coming together — and then he’d just float to the ground looking all shiny and righteous… had to intimidate, right? But I also wanted it to be a serious Paragon Path as well that could represent a real order in a game world. I’m actually fairly certain it’s a little underpowered… but, oh well.

As always, I look forward to your critique — and thanks for reading.
